Join Us In Celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness month, and For Harriet continues to stay committed to dismantling the culture of silence and shame around mental and emotional wellness in minority communities.

This month we’ll be holding our first blog carnival to showcase the stories of Black women who have experienced mental illness and emotional trauma or who have witnessed its effects.

A blog carnival is a collection of linked blog posts on a single topic meant to facilitate discussion and awareness. Your submission may take on the issue from any vantage point.

Don’t think you have a story to tell? Consider these questions:

Were you recently diagnosed with a mental illness?
Did you live for an extended period without a diagnosis?
Did you suffer debilitating post-partum depression?
Were you raised by a mentally ill parent?
Have you finally decided to seek therapy?

There are innumerable ways to tackle the subject, and we would love to hear from you! Submissions will be accepted from now until May 16.

Submission Guidelines

Send links to mentalhealth@forharriet.com
The post should be an original work published solely on your own site.
Please submit only one post.
The post should be recent – no more than three months old.
Please include a 1-2 sentence description of your post in your email in order to be considered.
Please link back to the carnival if you are included.

Please do not be offended if your post isn’t included. We may not be able to feature all submissions. Once the carnival is published, you will be emailed if your post is included. That email will contain the link to the carnival that you can use when you link back.

If you do not have a blog but would still like to share your story, send your piece to submissions@forharriet.com
