3 Tips to Slow Down Your Spending During the Work Week

by Dalila Thomas

When is the last time you heard someone say, “I’m trying to spend my money?” Exactly.

But trying save money is usually the story of everyone’s life. Saving money is not an easy feat. And many people neglect the fact that a lot of spending happens during the work week. But don’t get discouraged, there are ways save a dollar or two Monday through Friday.

Grocery shop on the weekend.

Yes, of course the stores are packed, but this will allow your fridge and pantry to be fully stocked for the week. Preparing your lunch becomes a whole lot easier, not to mention cheaper. And when it comes to dinner, it’s less costly to make a last minute meal on a Wednesday night that to make last minute reservations. You’re also less prone to go to the store hungry, as you probably would during the work week after an 8-hour shift.

Ditch the gym membership, grab a pal.

For the most part, getting a gym membership equates to, well, no exercise – even with the monthly bill and that annoying key tag. One of the best ways to get back on the fitness saddle – because you promised yourself you would – is grabbing a pal to join you on your journey. Believe it or not, having a workout buddy makes you feel more accountable for working out and less prone to cancelling. You don’t want to be the slacker, right? With that being said, utilize each others gyms within your complex or use workout DVD’s in the living room. In the warmer months, take your workout to the great outdoors to break a more intense sweat.

Enjoy happy hour at home.

Everyone loves a good post-workday happy hour, but depending on how often you go, it can get a tad pricey. So why not take happy hour, to your home – or to one of your co-worker’s houses? You can even rotate on a weekly basis, taking turns buying a couple bottles of wine to share between 3-4 people. But if you MUST go out for an after work pick-me-up, utilize the web or social media to find out what places in your city have good deals.

What are some ways you save a few bucks throughout the work week?
